Egypt is famous for high-quality jasmine oil due to its ideal climate and traditional harvesting method. The flowers are hand-picked at night when the scent is at its peak to ensure the absolute product is of the highest quality. This careful selection and harvesting process preserves the unique floral fragrance that makes Jasmine Absolute so popular in skincare and perfumery.

Extraction and Production

Jasmine Absolute is created through a delicate solvent extraction process, as the blossoms are far too fragile to withstand steam distillation. Fresh jasmine flowers are picked by hand at night, when their aroma is at its peak. An experienced picker can gather between ten and fifteen thousand blossoms in a single night, and they must be handled with great care to avoid bruising.

The flowers are first processed to produce a concrete, from which the absolute is then extracted using alcohol. Around one thousand pounds of blossoms yield only about one pound of liquid concrete, which in turn provides roughly 0.2 percent of the aromatic compounds that make Jasmine Absolute so distinctive.

The result is a mobile, orange-brown liquid with a sweet, intensely floral and exotic character. Because of the labour involved, the low natural yield, and the moderate potential for sensitisation in formulation, Jasmine Absolute is produced in limited quantities and remains a rare, highly valued ingredient for both skincare and fragrance creation.
